boys boys boys according to jamie grace
Last year, I uploaded links to Kari Jobe on singleness (The moment you fall in love).
This year, I stumbled on Jame Grace's testimony on the subject of boys, boys, boys. For single Christian girls, it's hard to remain faithful. You can see other girls and boys starting to date from a young age, you see them spend a lot of time together, you might have your own desires for finding your prince charming.
Being Asian, it's a bit difficult to justify why I am waiting, and not freely dating others. I believe that Jame Grace is onto something here. Dating intentionally, dating the right type of person, is worth waiting for.
I believe I was created by the creator of Love, I believe he knows my dreams, my hopes and my future. I believe it's my goal to live a life that is pleasing to him, while I am and have waited for the love of my life. I believe true love is worth waiting for.
Flashcard testimony- klove's free song don't give up
This week's klove free song is Don't give up (calling glory). A week ago today I landed in New York. And as I left, I had great memories of riding through the subways and exploring this huge city. But now, a week later, it lies until a thin blanket of water and darkness. Those who are homeless, those who are struggling, don't give up. Especially through this storm.
I want to share with you a testimony set to this song. I cried for most of it. I too have had things that have made me prideful. And I am glad God took away things in my life so that I could really truly rely on him.
I need to constantly keep myself in check, I don't want God to take such extreme measures to get me to realise that he is sovereign over everything. But I am a foolish person.
I hope that you will never give up. Sometimes the lord gives and sometimes the lord takes away. But in everything, do it for his glory!

Testimony summary:
Sherman shares how she went to a catholic school and prayed when she was young. She would pray when she wanted something, she didn't attend any services or fellowships. When she grew up she realised she was creative and artistic. She told God, this talent is something you have put inside of me. She entered a talent contest and from there entered the entertainment industry. She talks about the clashes of the entertainment industry and her reserved personality.
She talks about how she found God. She says people turn to God when they are in despair. At times she asks where God is when she feels numb on stage- she felt angry at God. At that time, a pastor visited HK and called her. She told the pastor her frustrations and stress. She had thought that if she acted better, did certain things she could earn God's love. The pastor told her that it's not the case. God loved us even before we were born, he loves us in spite of our weaknesses and bad performances.
Many people seek idols, etc to gain inner peace.
Sherman was invited by the pastor to sing a love song she looked around but couldn't find an appropriate song. She asked God for a miracle to write a song within a few short days. The song writing process was joyful for Sherman. The song's title is you are still my dear. When she sang this song, people were so moved they were crying. She gives all honour and glory to God. God's love doesn't make sense, he loves her despite the things she has thought and things she has done.
Although she knows God exists, she is a pessimist. It's easy to lose sight of the purpose you were made. She was worried that she would lose her way in the entertainment industry because there weren't many christians around. She saw how those around her started to believe God and change their lives. She couldn't believe that a christian cd would sell so well. Everyone has a responsibility to spread the gospel, taking every opportunity. Sherman herself felt that she was inapt to spread the word, but was willing to put herself out there to be used in furthering God's kingdom.
My thoughts: Sometimes I have the same thoughts at Sherman, although I know it's not directly related to behaviour, I sometimes can't help be try to want to please God through reading the bible diligently, etc. I too am still learning and growing. I know that God loves me despite who I am.
I also see the changes of those around us. If I don't keep moving forward, I will lag behind. There is nothing special about me, but God has allowed me to share his message to others. God has also chosen you to spread the gospel to those around you.

Testimony by sum mei. At 25, a friend talked about a "spiritual guy" foretelling a friend being able to get a romantic partner in x months. And this didn't happen. So a few of them went to confront the "spiritual guy". He as a christian refused to get this fortune telling experience but the "spiritual guy" told him that he would get married at 28 and would die by 29 unless someone else died for him.
He actually believed it when he went home. He suggested that if a doctor told him, he might have believed it, but he believed this fortune teller. He didn't want to tell his loved ones because he didn't want to worry them.
He felt alone, like no one could help him. He remembered that he had friends at church and he returned to church. As he left church each week he would feel the warmth of the sky. We could die at any time, we just don't think about it. It's relationships that are most important. It doesn't matter how long your life is, it's what you make of it. From then, he tried to go home to have dinner each week. He started to treasure the time he had with his family.
When he was unhappy he would pray and read the bible. It seemed that the bible was directly answered his prayers. The bible told us not to trust in false prophets.The bible talks about his purpose in spreading the gospel. At 28, he actually did get married... then he thought, at 29, he would die. But by then, he wasn't afraid any more. He visited this fortune teller. And challenged him, do you remember me? Will I die next year? He wanted to tell him that he was wrong. But he didn't. He thinks that God used this fortune teller to bring him back to himself, to his family, to his church.
My response: Sometimes God puts people, and experiences in our lives that we think are painful. But he has his plans for us. Everyday is a gift. How can we love those around us today?

He played some of my favourite songs including: Overcome, There will be a day. Jeremy kicked off with Understand: You are there when I fall, when I call, you understand it all.
Right here: Isaiah 43 fear not for I have redeemed you. He talked about his tough experiences that he was going through when he wrote this song. It doesn't matter what challenges are before us, where we go because God not far away, he is here, right here.
This man: took 10 years to write. Jesus paid the price.
There will be a day: about a day when Jesus comes again and it will all be ok. I want to be known as a man that lived just for Christ.
Take you back: ah, he high fived his wife, love it! But God takes us back despite the things we do.
Stay
Soon and very soon: by Jeremy's wife. His wife talks about how she dedicated her life to the lord at 21 and Jeremy talks about going to youth camp at 16. he saw kids who were completely into the lord, they had the intimate relationship with God. Be brave for God. When you are in a dark place and you stick you head up, more lights will follow.
Let it fade. Are we truly giving everything to Christ? What if God came back tomorrow? If we live in the anticipation when we don't know when the Lord is coming... we need to be ready. It purifies the church. The band went to the Philippines and 2000 people committed their lives to Christ. He also talked about his wife's cancer experience. She was smiling and she realised that after she dies she would be with Jesus and if she could bring one other person to Christ, then it would be worth it. He talks about how his daughter is crying ... through listening to the song and sharing, Give me Jesus.
I still believe: in your faithfulness, your truth
The way: Shine, bright, let you glory fill this land, lift high, the king of kings and great i am. You are the way
Overcome: By the blood of the lamb. Understand the power of the blood and the word of our testimony.
And then he leads us in a series of prayers
My thoughts: This was a well advertised event throughout the christian community- e.g. klove, twitter. It was frustrating at first because I could not access the concert on google chrome, once I loaded up another browser it was smooth sailing. Overall, the sound quality and video quality was pretty good. The show was managed well live with few hiccups (problems with initial sound quality, the beginning speech by the global team dragged on for a bit). Excellent job by the productive team who made it look very professional. It was a fresh experience and I'm looking forward to a series of other concerts by global sounds :)
What I loved about concerts rather than listening to cds is that there is testimonies, sharings, and you can see live responses from other people. Thank you for opening up your home to the world. Indeed, God calls us to follow completely. Go completely. Do completely.

薜家燕's testimony
薜家燕 is an actress in Hong Kong. She talks about how she worked so hard to earned money. But then she because quite ill due to the stress on her body.
She prayed to God for recovery. God healed her and now she uses opportunities to spread God's word.

Wong Cho Lam's testimony.
ChoLam is known in HK to be a short, funny and talented entertainer. He shares his testimony.
ChoLam talks about his low self-esteem and his need to achieve in order to get the attention of others. He also talks about his experience in relationships- mistreating the other person in order to feel secure. He also talks about his early experiences at church: the lack of musical talent but joy in their singing.
Part 1
ChoLam talks about his experience in cell group. He explains about the book of Ruth and how the rich Boaz meets Ruth. He starts to understand that Love waits, it's not about possession. He started to steadily attend church and others were treating him well. Then he started to humble himself through his volunteer work with the church. And understand that even though he is short, he is still valuable.
He talks about how he changed through following Jesus. He talks about the happiness he experienced as a new christian. Then he question whether believing in God makes everything smooth.
While he was on exchange, he questioned where his dad was. His dad was into extreme sports and believed that his dad was out diving. He found out that his dad had stage 3 cancer. After some time, CT scans showed that his father's cancer was clean and the family were happily joking about it. But when they got into surgery, they discovered that the cancer had spread too much. ChoLam talks about how he was really angry at this stage. Why did God give them false hope? Where was God when he needed him? He prayed to God and asked God to alleviate his father's pain. And instantly his father's pain decreased. He couldn't believe that this was happening. Every night he would pray that God would alleviate his father's pain. His father was fighting the illness. One night he was moved by the spirit, thanked God for this earthly father and prayed with Psalms 23.
Part 2
ChoLam believed that his father was ready to meet God in heaven and that night he passed away. His dad had told him that he had been praying. He had already committed his life to Christ.
He then talked about his challenges in the entertainment industry. He wasn't particularly good looking which made it difficult to make ends meet. Then he started to pick up more children's shows and he thanks God for this. By faith, he got through each and every challenge.
With success, he knows that's it's God's grace. But sometimes it gets to his head. He had many jobs lined up. And he had a problem with his body that required him to rest. He realised during this time that he was trying too hard to please too many people. It wasn't about money for him, but the trouble was about getting praise.
He also talked about a recent car accident. He didn't even have enough time to react, he thought that this is how my life ends. He talked dramatically about how it was God that kept him safe. He felt so loved by God.
Part 3
ChoLam goes on to say that everyone's experience is unique. God is real. He hopes that all the glory belongs to God.
ChoLam inspires me. We share some commonalities. We are both short. We are both not physically attractive. And we both believe that God loves us despite this. And we were both given gifts (abit in different domains) that we choose to use to glorify God!
And what have I learned from his testimony sharing? God can make something out of each and everyone of us.

愛令我無懼- Roy's testimony
He was a entertainer in Hong Kong. He felt the persona he played wasn't himself. He also tried to commit suicide due to problems with work/family. He turned to drugs to help with the stress. In 2004, Roy was caught in the possession of drugs. And even though his family supported him, he couldn't get out of the dark hole.
Stuck in a gamers world. Roy talks through his transformation, through tears. He talks about how his mother cooks him instant noodles after being released from custody. And how he came to find God. God loves him despite his problems.
He then talks about the changes he has made in his life after receiving Christ. Swearing- this distracts others from Christ. Those around him started to notice the differences and came to know God as well! Amen!
He also talks about how he changed his view on sex, marriage and love.
Roy then discovered that he had a brain tumor. He was afraid that he was going to die. Then he remembered that God had taken care of his every need all along. He isn't afraid of the future because God is with him.
Are you willing to have a different future?
Are you also willing to take Jesus as your lord and saviour?
It's so simple, all you have to do is (1) accept that you are a sinner (2) accept that Jesus Christ died for your sins on the cross (3) that he rose from the dead. (4) and let him be your lord- live according to his will.

高皓正's testimony
Finally got my hands on the music to 不要驚動愛情 - 高皓正. From my experience, this is the best piece of advice I can give to young people that are in love. Don't fall in love too quickly. Because you will fall out of love very quickly. Respect yourself and the other person. Good things are worth the wait.
Here is an interview with the singer himself. He talks about his upbringing. His mum passed away when he was 6 and although he had family, he felt really alone.
He had a girlfriend for 7 years then she went overseas. He then talks about having casual physical relationships with females and still feeling an emptiness inside of him. As soon as someone gets close to him, he would get out of the relationship.
He was seeking for someone to love him. Through some experiences, including with the police, he finally understood that God loves him. Through seeking forgiveness from God, from family, from the girls he hurt, he felt this amazing level of sweet love from God.
He then decided that he couldn't have physical relationships any more before marriage. Because his relationship with God he didn't want to disappoint him anymore.
He also talked about problems with his work. And hearing God's guidance- God was going to be his manager and look after his work for him. He was given many chance to meet people and to share his testimony. He asked God-to make sure this is your will, I am going to make some really extreme clauses and if they say yes, then it's going to be your will. Including not filming things with negative content (gambling, etc) and being able to go evangelising.
He then shared several situations where God's grace was sufficient in his life.
I can relate to his testimony in several ways.
I also want to be a strong person. I don't want people to think of me as weak. So although I desire close relationships, I am afraid people won't love me anymore and would leave me, especially when they realise who I am. I am learning to rely more on God's love for me.
I used to think I knew the kind of partner I would like. Someone short and chubby. Someone who gives me a feeling of warmth, the magical feeling. Someone who loves God, loves music and someone I can share with. I had a vision of the type of person I would like to be with.
But he is right. It's not about the feeling. I am just after a person who loves God, loves me, and loves others (has a burden to spread the gospel and show God to believers and nonbelievers). Someone I feel safe with. Everything else seems secondary. And I hope there is someone out there looking for someone like me. Someone who isn't pretty or skinny or brilliant at everything I do. I am just a girl who loves God and loves others. And together, we would be able to serve God and serve people.
I am also going through difficulties with my work. Wondering if God wants me to be here and what I am doing with my life. And I too am given so many opportunities to meet people and share with them my testimony and God's love.
We are not tools. We are people who were loved by God and now we are going out to love others.
