Movie summary: The movie follows a prisoner (played by Hugh Jackman) on the run during the period of the French revolution. The prisoner is given a second chance in life by a priest and is able to make something of himself. But each time his identity is discovered, he is on the run again. On the way, his story is intertwined with the story of Fantine who is forced into prostitution in order to pay the people looking after her daughter. After her death, we find out that her daughter Cosette is actually mistreated by the inn keepers. Fast forward and Cosette is all grown up and falls in love with a man who is determined to have a part in the French revolution.
Surrender. Surrender. Surrender. I think this is something I have always been struggling with. I have recently been reading the account of Rebecca and Isaac in Genesis 24:1-67. This young lady was approached one day by the servant of Abraham (whom she has never met) and was asked to return with him and be married with the master's son. It's not as common these days to agree to blind marriages, but if I was her, would I be as willing to hand over my future to an unknown "master"?
But God doesn't want to be our part-time master, he wants to be our ONLY master. So in 2013, can I focus more on Him and less on me?

2012 was an eventful year for me. But the changes to my life in 2013 have already started to happen. It's an exciting time for me but at the same time, it's also very stressful.
Already in 2013, I feel that I've let God down. It's a little like Exodus 14, after escaping Egypt, the Israelites were being pursed by the Egyptians, and the seemed to have reached a dead end, they were afraid. But Moses told them, 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Last week, I was a bit overwhelmed by the changes happening in my life, I didn't know what to do, I felt the pressure, but when I opened up to God's word, he told me that He would fight for me and that I only needed to be still. AND God did fight for me. I didn't even have to defend myself.
There will be many things both positive and negative that might come your way in 2013, and even if it seems like the end of the road, just remember, God has a plan, and all is well. Just have faith in him!

My thoughts: IT's got to be one of my favorite proposals EVER.
I recently watched "The Robin" on How I met your mother. And the song that was playing in the background just drew me in. One of the things I love about HIMYM is that we know Ted is eventually going to meet the mother of the kids. But we, after 8 seasons are still trying to find out who it is, how he meets her, how they fall in love and the really really long winded story in between.
And we keep seeing him fail. Fail and FAIL. Ted may feel alone right now, but we know that he will have a happy ending. In the same way, you may have your own struggles right now. You may be struggling in your studies- wondering whether you will ever succeed- you may be struggling with your work- wondering if you can ever gain the approval of your boss - you maybe struggling in your relationship - or wondering whether anyone out there is waiting for you, or whether you will be alone forever. But you know what?
This soon will pass. And we have to await the joys of eternity.
And today I reread Hebrews. It's often easy to say that you believe in the future God has for you, and it's easy to say that you believe in the unseen. But it's another thing to really feel worn out and see your options fall apart. But I have to keep reminding myself that one day I will be telling someone else my testimony and I would be telling them this is How I ....

It's been an eventful year for my family and we can't even begin to count all the blessings given to us from above.
Mum has also recovered so much over the past year through her persistent hydrotherapy. We was well enough to enjoy a trip to Alaska and Perth with her sisters. Praise God ~ what a difference a year makes in recovery. She is also blessed with many opportunities to be active within the church community helping out with the library as well as visitation.
My baby brother is now officially a doctor. Please continue to pray for him as he helps the afflicted especially during his upcoming rural placement. And my mum and I were so blessed to be able to attend John's baptism in May. He is always ready to serve when asked, his latest project is a giant mural for the church but you can see his willingness through other avenues such as part of the worship team and acting in various dramas.
God also provided for me every step of the way on my trip to America/Canada. It really was a trip of a lifetime and I've learned a lot both academically and through the people I've met and experiences I've been through. It was such a blessing to find the body of Christ in a foreign country and receive support during very challenging moments. I was given amazing opportunities to work alongside the best in my field of research and God willing, I will write to you next year as KL PhD. God has been very generous in his blessings of health this year and I saw speedy recoveries from many different injuries. And it's been a joy to see the spiritual growth of my sunday school class and be able to spread the gospel alongside other brothers and sisters.
We have also been very blessed to spend much time with family and friends both in Australia and abroad over the last year. You are all constantly in our prayers.
And during this festive season, it's important to remember that if God can give us his one and only son, what can he withhold from us? The gift of eternal life and everlasting blessing is within reach, so I encourage you to grab hold of it, and to spread this good news to others!
