New Man- All things new

Lately, I've been working with children who are suffering mental health problems partly due to their parents behavior. In the past their parents may have neglected them, may have done things to them, may have used drugs during pregnancy  And despite all this, you know what? All they wanted was for their parent to be there for a particular birthday party or school event.

Parents bring their kids into therapy expecting us to fix the kid and give them a perfect kid afterwards. But the reality is, parents must also be committed to becoming like new parents. This change is HARD. And some aren't willing to change. But for those who are willing to give it a shot, the rewards are well worth it.

Movie Review: Passion of Christ (2004)

Movie review:

Movie Summary: The film depicts the last 12 hours of the life of Jesus of Nazareth. How he was captured, how he was tortured, how he died and how he resurrected from the dead.

My thoughts: Well because I'm lazy, I wish it was in English and I wish the resurrection was a bigger deal. But other than that, I think it's still a must watch for every christian.

10/10

Even now, years after first watching the film, snip its of the film still float by in my mind. When I think of the suffering of Christ during communion, my mind automatically goes to the scenes where Jesus was whipped.

Movie Review: Identify Theft (2013)

21:22:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

Movie Summary: Sandy (male name) has his identity stolen by a lady in another state. She lives it up buying herself electronics, makeup, cars, etc. None of this appears to satisfy her. Meanwhile, Sandy's job and freedom is at stake as he tries to find her and get her to pay for her crimes. When he does find her, the story goes way over board.

My thoughtsThe movie is a timely reminder to change those passwords and to keep your identity safe. I'm not a fan. To really enjoy the film, you would need to really like over the top comedy and mild violence. I'm not a fan of either. It was made to be deliberately far fetched from the story line to the characters and the ending. I would not recommend this film to children without parental supervision. I would say it was a waste of my time, except I particularly enjoyed the ending, so if you make it that far, it would be worth your ticket.

3/5

Not to ruin the ending but WHO ON EARTH could ever befriend, like and accept someone who has ruined your life?

I've just completed my in depth study of the books of Samuel. And here is my sponsor child SAMUEL. He is from Kenya. Please pray for him.

I've been contemplating child sponsorship for some time now. Of course, I already sponsor with others and contribute regularly but I have been holding back, I'll sponsor a child when I have a full time job, when it's stable, etc.

Last week, the pastor challenged us with the topic of GENEROSITY. The bible teaches us to be generous despite our circumstance. When we choose Jesus, we choose him OVER material things. And we have been blessed with such abundance, every good thing we have is from God. And, we are also called to love others. One way to show our love to non-believers is to meet their physical and emotional needs. We are followers of Jesus, the same man who fed the hungry and healed the sick.

If you haven't considered child sponsorship, let me challenge you to at least think about it.
I have been running for Compassion Australia (http://www.compassion.com.au/) for a number of years now. Compassion is dedicated to removing child poverty in the name of Jesus.

Luke 21:1-4

English Standard Version (ESV)

The Widow's Offering

21 Jesus[a] looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins.[b] And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of herpoverty put in all she had to live on.”

2 Corinthians 8:1-5

English Standard Version (ESV)

Encouragement to Give Generously

We want you to know, brothers,[a] about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor[b] of taking part in the relief of the saints— and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.

Different Roads

20:53:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

Different roads
Two strangers were walking on separate roads
And God let their roads briefly meet.

They enjoyed the walk together
And grew as  individuals in Christ

Then, the road of one suddenly diverged
And one of the strangers kept walking on

The other was stuck starring
And tried to get the attention of the other

But the other was well on their way into an new adventure
And she was stuck on the idea of what could have been

The girl was down and out
Refusing to move on

She shuffled her feet, kicked the dust
And unwillingly walked on

One day she stopped at a familiar intersection
And discovered the faded footsteps of the stranger

She smiled and nodded to herself
And thanked God for designing each step, each bump and bend

She said a silent prayer for the stranger
And cheerfully continued along her way.

Movie review: Somebody's hero

13:55:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

Movie Summary: A nerdy accountant encounters a thief while he is shopping at a costume store. He takes matters into his own hands and saves the owner. After this incident he trains himself to be fitter and better. He is approached by one of the witnesses with the costume as a gift. Pretty soon he finds himself labeled a hero and a symbol of hope for the citizens of America. News headlines are constantly reporting about him and everyday people are standing up for themselves.
But things don't last and he is betrayed by the very person who gave him the costume. He is accused of trying to romance a single mother out of her money and put to public shame.
Despite all of this, he is still somebody's hero.

Easter- what's the big deal? Told through songs

Who is this Jesus fellow?

Glorious Day (Living he loved me) Casting Crowns:

Some say he was a prophet, some say he was a kind man. I believe Jesus was God born of a virgin. He became flesh and dwelt among us. While he was alive, he told people about the mysteries of heaven and of how to live while alive on earth (to love God and to love others). Jesus allowed the people of the time to crucify him on the cross. He was buried and on the third day, he rose from the dead. He ascended into heaven where he is preparing a room for us. And he will return.
Living he loved me, dying he saved me, buried he carried my sins far away, rising he justified freely forever. And he will come again.

Lead me to the cross- Hillsong:

It's good to spend time reflecting on Good Friday the amazing things God has done in your life. When we are led to the cross of Jesus we can quietly experience his suffering, where his love was poured out for us. Reminding us that we were crucified with Christ and we no longer lives, but Christ lives in us.

Amazing love by the Newsboys:

The whole point is that Jesus came to die for our sins, and because of this act of love, we are forgiven and accepted by God. Jesus Christ, the son of God was forsaken, condemned and died- all of this for you. This is an amazing love.

Christ the Lord is risen today:

Alleluia is roughly equivalent to "praise ye the lord". I think this hymn shares the basics of the message. Christ raised from the dead, death no longer has a hold on him, the battle is won, so let us rejoice and praise Jesus Christ our Lord!

You know there are so many songs/hymns written about Easter. I am sure you have your own favourite song that really tells the story for you. But the message is quite simple. On the third day Jesus rose from the dead. That's why Easter is all about new life. That's why early christians gave out eggs to symbolize this rebirth. Easter is a very very important celebration for Christians. It's the core of my christian belief. (1) We are all sinners which is punishable by eternal death, (2) but God loved us so much that he sent his one and only son to die in our place (3) But death did not hold him, and now he gives new life to those who are willing to surrender their life to him.

Let me encourage you to celebrate with others this Easter- you can google special Easter services near you!

It's Monday. The start of another work week. Are you tired? Will you be doing the same things again this week? Is your life repetitive?
When was the last time you have challenged yourself to be better? To do more? When was the last time you have felt driven?
Jesus came to give us new life, not so that we can live exactly the way we lived before- tied down by money, routine, but he came to give us a brand new life. LIVE IT TO THE FULL this week!

John 10:10

New International Version (NIV)
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

So far, it appears that 2013 is presenting me with wave after wave of trouble. Parts of our house was destroyed by gale force winds which required renovation. The fencing people did a less than decent job and took 2 months to fix their mistakes. The painters caused us an absolutely nightmare as they broke many many things, and did such a terrible job painting that none of the bathroom doors close anymore. They also ruined the carpet which meant we had to get all the carpets relayed. The day after the carpets were finished, our house was robbed.

And just when I thought I had learned my lesson- just when I thought God was done teaching me to forgive and love, another wave hits me. A huge traffic jam caused me to miss an important meeting, thereby threatening my ability to graduate on time/ and my enrollment. And these are only the bigger things, let's not mention difficulties with my health, relationships and finances.

Movie review: The sapphires (2012)

Movie Summary: It's a musical movie based on a true story of the first all-female aboriginal girl singing group. Despite being the underdogs, the girls work hard to show that native girls can still put on a show- even during a war.

#23 help with microfinancing - done

11:32:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

Give a man a fish... teach a man to fish...

As Christians, we are told to give generously. To help those in need. And to love our neighbors as ourselves. It's all good and all but HOW? In 2010, in an episodes of Simpsons, Lisa learns about microfinancing. Basically, it's about loaning small amounts of money to people who can't get normal loans to get them a kick start in their business. The cartoon also showed that these organisations also tends to make a lot of money. Similarly  we find that we become more and more skeptical of the way non-profit organisations use their money. Unfortunately, this gives more and more of us excuses to simply keep our wallets closed.
