2 Kings 23

23 Then the king called together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. He went up to the temple of theLord with the people of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the prophets—all the people from the least to the greatest. He read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant, which had been found in the temple of the Lord. The king stood by the pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord—to follow the Lord and keep his commands, statutes and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, thus confirming the words of the covenant written in this book. Then all the people pledged themselves to the covenant.
The king ordered Hilkiah the high priest, the priests next in rank and the doorkeepers to remove from the temple of the Lord all the articles made for Baal and Asherah and all the starry hosts. He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron Valley and took the ashes to Bethel. He did away with the idolatrous priests appointed by the kings of Judah to burn incense on the high places of the towns of Judah and on those around Jerusalem—those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and moon, to the constellations and to all the starry hosts. He took the Asherah pole from the temple of the Lord to the Kidron Valley outside Jerusalem and burned it there. He ground it to powder and scattered the dust over the graves of the common people. He also tore down the quarters of the male shrine prostitutes that were in the temple of the Lord, the quarters where women did weaving for Asherah.
Josiah brought all the priests from the towns of Judah and desecrated the high places, from Geba to Beersheba, where the priests had burned incense. He broke down the gateway at the entrance of the Gate of Joshua, the city governor, which was on the left of the city gate. Although the priests of the high places did not serve at the altar of the Lord in Jerusalem, they ate unleavened bread with their fellow priests.
10 He desecrated Topheth, which was in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, so no one could use it to sacrifice their son or daughter in the fire to Molek. 11 He removed from the entrance to the temple of the Lord the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun. They were in the court[a] near the room of an official named Nathan-Melek. Josiah then burned the chariots dedicated to the sun.
12 He pulled down the altars the kings of Judah had erected on the roof near the upper room of Ahaz, and the altars Manasseh had built in the two courts of the temple of the Lord. He removed them from there, smashed them to pieces and threw the rubble into the Kidron Valley. 13 The king also desecrated the high places that were east of Jerusalem on the south of the Hill of Corruption—the ones Solomon king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the vile goddess of the Sidonians, for Chemosh the vile god of Moab, and for Molek the detestable god of the people of Ammon. 14 Josiah smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles and covered the sites with human bones.
15 Even the altar at Bethel, the high place made by Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin—even that altar and high place he demolished. He burned the high place and ground it to powder, and burned the Asherah pole also. 16 Then Josiah looked around, and when he saw the tombs that were there on the hillside, he had the bones removed from them and burned on the altar to defile it, in accordance with the word of the Lord proclaimed by the man of God who foretold these things.
17 The king asked, “What is that tombstone I see?”
The people of the city said, “It marks the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and pronounced against the altar of Bethel the very things you have done to it.”
18 “Leave it alone,” he said. “Don’t let anyone disturb his bones .” So they spared his bones and those of the prophet who had come from Samaria.
19 Just as he had done at Bethel, Josiah removed all the shrines at the high places that the kings of Israel had built in the towns of Samaria and that had aroused the Lord’s anger. 20 Josiah slaughtered all the priests of those high places on the altars and burned human bones on them. Then he went back to Jerusalem.
21 The king gave this order to all the people: “Celebrate the Passover to the Lord your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.” 22 Neither in the days of the judges who led Israel nor in the days of the kings of Israel and the kings of Judah had any such Passover been observed. 23 But in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, this Passover was celebrated to the Lord in Jerusalem.
24 Furthermore, Josiah got rid of the mediums and spiritists, the household gods, the idols and all the other detestable things seen in Judah and Jerusalem. This he did to fulfill the requirements of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had discovered in the temple of the Lord. 25 Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did—with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.
26 Nevertheless, the Lord did not turn away from the heat of his fierce anger, which burned against Judah because of all that Manasseh had done to arouse his anger. 27 So the Lord said, “I will remove Judah also from my presence as I removed Israel, and I will rejectJerusalem, the city I chose, and this temple, about which I said, ‘My Name shall be there.’[b]
28 As for the other events of Josiah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?
29 While Josiah was king, Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt went up to the Euphrates River to help the king of Assyria. King Josiah marched out to meet him in battle, but Necho faced him and killed him at Megiddo.30 Josiah’s servants brought his body in a chariot from Megiddo to Jerusalem and buried him in his own tomb. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and anointed him and made him king in place of his father.

Luke 3 b- Jesus' genealogy

23:03:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

Today's bible study was on Luke 3b.

- About 30 years old, jesus began his public ministry because in Moses time, Lev served from 30-50.
- It was only thought Joseph was Jesus' father.  Because Jesus did not have a biological father (Birth by virgin Mary).
- Differences between Matthew and Luke because Matthew only listed Kings (written for Jews) and Luke more complete (listing those who may not be royal).
- Matthew starts from Abraham to David to Jesus.
- Luke starts from Jesus to David, to Abraham, to Adam to God. Illustrating that Jesus is a savior for man.
- Adam was the first man to sin, and since we are all his descendants, we too are cursed and have the sin of origin. We can not directly be connected to God anymore because of this.
- We also have our own personal sins. For example, David, even though he was known as a man after God's own heart, he committed a sin by coverting his neighbour's wife. And he was punished for this. He repented and God forgave him. We too have many sins, that makes us even further from God.
- When Jesus came, he fulfilled the old promise and created a new promise. So WHAT? Through Jesus we can be united once again with God. Because we are children of God.

1) Admit that you are a sinner, because you are a descendant of Adam and because you have committed your own sins
2) And we can not save ourselves.
3) Jesus came, as God, to sacrifice his own life, so that we can be free of this sin. His precious blood washed away both the sin of origin and the sin we committed- once and for all.
4) All we have to do is to believe that he died for our sins and choose to follow him as our saviour from now on. And we can be guaranteed to have eternal life.

What does it mean to follow Jesus? This is a point of discussion to be covered at another time. But Have you taken the first few steps? Are you ready to commit your life?

Question evolution - part 1

23:41:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

I just came home from the local Question Evolution Tour presentation (http://creation.com/question-evolution-tour). Gary Bates and Johnathan Safati presented some information in refute of evolution. Being inspired by the presentation, I will present a series of blog entries dedicated to some issues they presented. I am not claiming to be an expert in the area, I can only present what I have read and heard. I will be guided by The Creation Answers book and Refuting Evolution; which I picked up tonight.

FIRST ISSUE: Evolution is considered a fact and a science
- Evolution taught widely as a fact in schools
- Evolutionists believe in Naturalism- that things made themselves.
- Yes, evolution maybe based on science, but this is not the testable, repeatable, observable experimental science we do in labs. It's forensic science based on many assumptions which have not be directly observed.  For example, we have to assume that the same processes in operation today were in operation in the past. So it's a best guess really.
- So believing in evolution also requires a leap of faith. It's a world view.

My own views in this area: I too have felt a little intimidated by the arguments of evolution. At some points in my life, I have been challenged about evolution. Even in my christian high school, they were teaching evolution in line with creation. They made minor adjustments like...6 days of creation can mean 6 periods of time... many years, or gaps in time, or having fossils even during the time when adam and eve were in eden. There are problems with these theories which will be addressed in later blog entries. This is the challenge- If you don't 100% believe in the creation of the world as written in the first few pages of the bible, how can you believe any of the bible? We Christians are not told to blindly follow what our leader says.

He answered: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Luke 10:27.

So indeed, we are told to THINK. To challenge the thinking of others. Let us continue to question evolution!

Wong Cho Lam's testimony.

ChoLam is known in HK to be a short, funny and talented entertainer. He shares his testimony.

ChoLam talks about his low self-esteem and his need to achieve in order to get the attention of others. He also talks about his experience in relationships- mistreating the other person in order to feel secure. He also talks about his early experiences at church: the lack of musical talent but joy in their singing.

Part 1

ChoLam talks about his experience in cell group. He explains about the book of Ruth and how the rich Boaz meets Ruth. He starts to understand that Love waits, it's not about possession. He started to steadily attend church and others were treating him well. Then he started to humble himself through his volunteer work with the church. And understand that even though he is short, he is still valuable.

He talks about how he changed through following Jesus. He talks about the happiness he experienced as a new christian. Then he question whether believing in God makes everything smooth.

While he was on exchange, he questioned where his dad was. His dad was into extreme sports and believed that his dad was out diving. He found out that his dad had stage 3 cancer. After some time, CT scans showed that his father's cancer was clean and the family were happily joking about it. But when they got into surgery, they discovered that the cancer had spread too much. ChoLam talks about how he was really angry at this stage. Why did God give them false hope? Where was God when he needed him? He prayed to God and asked God to alleviate his father's pain. And instantly his father's pain decreased. He couldn't believe that this was happening. Every night he would pray that God would alleviate his father's pain. His father was fighting the illness. One night he was moved by the spirit, thanked God for this earthly father and prayed with Psalms 23.

Part 2

ChoLam believed that his father was ready to meet God in heaven and that night he passed away. His dad had told him that he had been praying. He had already committed his life to Christ.

He then talked about his challenges in the entertainment industry. He wasn't particularly good looking which made it difficult to make ends meet. Then he started to pick up more children's shows and he thanks God for this. By faith, he got through each and every challenge.

With success, he knows that's it's God's grace. But sometimes it gets to his head. He had many jobs lined up. And he had a problem with his body that required him to rest. He realised during this time that he was trying too hard to please too many people. It wasn't about money for him, but the trouble was about getting praise.

He also talked about a recent car accident. He didn't even have enough time to react, he thought that this is how my life ends. He talked dramatically about how it was God that kept him safe. He felt so loved by God.

Part 3

ChoLam goes on to say that everyone's experience is unique. God is real. He hopes that all the glory belongs to God.

Part 4

ChoLam inspires me. We share some commonalities. We are both short. We are both not physically attractive. And we both believe that God loves us despite this. And we were both given gifts (abit in different domains) that we choose to use to glorify God!

And what have I learned from his testimony sharing? God can make something out of each and everyone of us.

Teaching / Teacher - The special ability God gives to some to explain the truths of the Word of God clearly and to apply them effectively so that those taught understand and learn. To instruct others in the Bible in a logical and systematic way so as to communicate pertinent information for true understanding and growth.
The divine enablement to understand, clearly explain, and apply the word of God causing greater Christ-likeness in the lives of listeners.
People with this gift:
- communicate Biblical truth that inspires greater obedience to the word
- challenge listeners simply and practically with the truths of scripture
- focus on changing lives by helping others understand the Bible better
- give attention to detail and accuracy
- prepare through extended times of study and reflection.

Leadership (Serving Gift) - The special ability God gives to some to set goals in accordance with God's purpose and to communicate these goals to others in such a way that they voluntarily and harmoniously work together to accomplish these goals for the glory of God.
The divine enablement to cast vision, motivate, and direct people to harmoniously accomplish the purposes of God.
People with this gift:
- provide direction for God's people or ministry

- present the "big picture" for others to see
- model the values of the ministry

Music - The gift that gives a believer the capability to present personal witness and inspiration to others through instrumental music, singing, or dancing.
The special gift whereby the Spirit enables certain Christians to praise God through music in such a way as to enhance the worship experience of other believers. It gives the believer the desire and capability to express personal faith and provide inspiration and comfort through the playing of a musical instrument, singing, or dancing. The spiritual aspect of the gift is revealed as the gift bearer gives witness to love and praise for the Lord, and thus glorifies God. Those listening or watching become inspired to feel the presence and majesty of God when music, song, or dance uplifts their soul in a manner that brings them closer to their Lord.
People with this gift:
- sing or play a musical instrument quite well, and enjoy it
- have special joy singing praises to God, either alone or with other people
- feel secure in the fact that their musical ability will be of benefit to other people with whom they come in contact
- can use their musical ability to help and inspire others to worship God
- see that their singing or instrument playing is a spiritual encouragement for others.

So What?
Now that you know your gifts, it's about building on the gifts and praying about gifts you would like to develop for His kingdom.
