The worship songs that defined 2013. www.wowhits.com

1. Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)- Chris Tomlin
It's easy to be afraid at the start of a new journey, but we need to know if God is for us, whom shall we fear.

2.  Redeemed- Big Daddy Weave
God you aren't done with me yet. Still a lot of improving to do.

3.  Hello, My Name Is- Matthew West
I have a sunday school kid with a yellow "Hello" t-shirt. She is the brightest most loving person. While there are many labels we can give ourselves, therapist, student, teacher, fat, skinny, pretty, ugly. The one label we don't use enough is, child of the one true king.

4. You Are I Am- Mercy Me
You are the one who conquers giants, walks through fire, one messiah, you are "I am".

5. One Thing Remains- Kristan Stanfill
Your love never fails, never gives up, never runs out on me.

6. Lord, I Need You- Matt Maher
Teach my song to rise to you, when temptation comes my way. When I cannot stand, I'll fall on you, Jesus you are my hope and stay.

7. Jesus, Friend of Sinners- Castin Crowns
The world is on the way to you, but tripping over me. open our eyes to our pointing fingers. Lord, I have really been a problem this year. Thank you for accepting me just as I am.

8. Strangely Dim- Francesca Battistelli
Somehow the plans that I have, dreams that I hold don't ever turn out how I imagine. But it doesn't matter, because they all grow strangely dim when I fix my eyes on all that you are!

9. Love Take Me Over- Steven Curtis Chapman
Love take these thoughts I'm thinking, words that I'm speaking, prayer that I'm praying. Love take me over. For 2014- hoping that I'm filled even more with love.

10. Your Grace Finds Me - Matt Redman
From creation to the cross, from the cross until eternity, your grace finds me. It's there on a wedding day, there by the weeping by the graveside. So thankful for the weddings this year, and new births of babies. And for your blessings of peace during times of weeping this year.

11. My God - Jeremy Camp
I'm so proud of the young people at church who have really echoed this song. They openly declare that you are the unchanging love, the great creator, beautiful saviour.

12. Help Me Find It- Sidewalk Prophets
When I was struggling with what I should do with my future. I trusted in God to bring me job offers and to trust in God to reject offers. He gave me peace, even though this road is difficult.

13. Steady My Heart- Kari Jobe
This was on a loop for a while. Kari Jobe is a huge role model for those of us who are still single and waiting for God's will. Enjoying singleness as a phase in God's timing. Even when it hurts, even when it's hard, even when it all just falls apart.

14. Jesus in Disguise- Brandon Heath
To recognize Jesus in Disguise. And to be Jesus in disguise for the people.

15. Don't Try So Hard- Amy Grant
Don't try so hard- because you can't earn grace. you're lovely even with your scars.

16. Starts With Me- Tim Timmons
Thank you God for allowing me to see you. You are my revival song. Thanks God for reviving children's worship and the kids amazing willingness to serve you.

17. Come However You Are- City Harbour
We don't have to wait till we are perfect. Blisters on our feet, hearts shattered, feel unwanted, unneeded ... come however you are, come with all the heartaches, mistakes and lay them down at the cross.

18. We Won't Be Shaken- Building 429
This is a song I just want to shout out loud. Whatever will come our way, through fire and pouring rain, we won't be shaken. Whatever tomorrow brings, together we will rise and sing, we won't be shaken. When people who claim to be Christians cheat us, and those who claim to be neighbours robbed us. We won't be shaken.

19. Steal My Show- Toby Mac
It's been difficult to stay humble when we achieve. But this song is a great reminder who we really want to steal the show. Let his light shine. And let my light only shine to bring others to His light.

20. Gold- Britt Nicole'
While I gained a lot of weight this year from my illness, medication and inability to exercise, I was reminded that self-image is not the most important thing, but we are worth more than Gold in God's eyes. And hopefully I can propogate this message to my kiddies.

21. I Need a Miracle- Third Day
Thanks for providing me with friends, family and miraculous support. Because there was no way I could have done it on my own. Losing my stable source of income, health difficulties, and relationship turmoil.

22. the Proof of your love- for King and Country
Thanks God for reminding me to serve with love. To love the children that I serve and the parents. Let my life be proof of your love.

23. Need you now- Plumb
How many times have you given me strength to just keep breathing. Indeed, when we are weak, he is strong. I thank you for keeping my clients safe and sound despite serious suicidal ideation and psychoses.

24. You are- Colton Dixon
You are the song, I'm singing, you are the air I'm breathing, the hope I've needed. You have provided for my needs when my hands were truly empty this year. I don't know how I got into so much debt, but God you have sustained me, and I am thankful.

25. Overcomer- Mandisa
It feels good to overcome adversity.I'm not quite there yet, but I'm getting closer each day.

26. Worn- Tenth Avenue North
After 10 years at uni it's tiring, after being rejected and neglected by people who I trust, it's tiring. And God understands that I felt worn.

27. His Kind of Love- Group 1 Crew
From the same band that bought us "he said". It's so difficult for us to explain His kind of love to others. Reckless, self-less, sacrificial.

28. Kings and Queens- Audio adrenalin
This music video reminds me of my sponsor child in Kenya. He is no different to me, we are all God's children. It's time to treat them equally. Every child has a dream to be loved.

29. Live With Abandon- Newsboys
Chasing after this world makes me tired, I want to live with abandon, give you all that I am.

30. Keep Your Eyes Open- Needtobreath
Sometimes we are so focused on the little details, get lost in problems. But this song is a timely reminder to keep your eyes open.

31. When mercy found me- Rhett walker band
Victory over worries, sins when mercy found me. His love has rescued me, his love has set me free.

32. Even If- Kutless
In the difficult times, we pray that God will bring us through it quickly. But even if the healing doesn't come, and life falls apart, and dreams are still undone, you are God and you are good. Indeed, it's been a difficult year. But to remember that God is soverign over the good and bad times.

33. Never Beyond Repair- Everfound
No matter how much we failed to do this year, how far away we were from our own standards and God's standards, we are never beyond repair! Hallelujah.

And so that's 2013 summarized by songs. Songs from my favourite bands. All available to download from itunes as part of the WOW2014 package.

New year, new directions

21:39:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

2013 has been an eventful year, and there has been much that I'm grateful for (http://kikoprincess.blogspot.com.au/2013/12/gratitude-list-2013.html).

Today, the sermon was all about learning from our past and moving towards a path of Grace. I, just like the Israelites of the bible just keep falling into the same traps.

In considering next year's resolutions, I'm taking a page out of my own book. That is, what I tell my clients, in terms of goals.

I wanted to make goals towards valued directions.

And so here is the start of my list

1) To be thankful for something everyday- Review this list NYeve next year.
2) Exercise self-control and discipline- Finish PhD and get down to healthy weight
3) To be more connected- More real time, less screen time
4) Be a wise steward of money- Get out of debt
5) Love others more. WWJD

All I can do (thank you)- Mikeschair

06:28:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

It's been a really stressful couple of weeks. And I have felt like I've been hit on all sides, barely standing. Just when I thought things were under control, I would get smashed by another wave of burden. I pray nightly for God to defend me, uphold me. How many times have I been on the phone in tears to my family? X got stolen, I don't have enough x, I made a mistake iwth x.

And what can I do besides Thank Him? Especially in this last week, I didn't deserve all the justice I got, all the help I go, and all the energy that I have received. I received unbelievable news, one after one after one. God never promised that our life on Earth is easy, but sometimes it's just so sweet to be given so many blessings one after one after one.

Thank you.

500 days of summer

20:21:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

I was listening to 500 days of summer OST on spotify and the opening track really got to me. Not every boy meets girl story is a love story. And after x seasons of How I met Your Mother, I've also come to realise that not every love story ends in happily ever after. So what makes the difference between any girl-boy story and THE girl-boy story?

Most love stories has it's ups and downs, it's thrilling moments and it's sad moments, it's silent moments and it's moments of great joy. Common to all love stories is the human emotion. i am so blessed to be involved in the wedding preparations of one of my best friends. I've been blessed to have known the couple for the last 7+ years, almost as long as they have been officially a couple. I've seen them laugh, I've seen them cry, I've seen them yell, I've seen them sacrifice for each other. And now is the time in their love story where two become one.

Essentially, it's not found in the sweet moments, but in how the couple stand together in times of trial. It's not in selfishness, but in acceptance. It's not in quick heated arguments but in patience. It's not being resentful but it forgives.

In fact, it's all summarized well in this:

1 Corinthians 13

New International Version (NIV)
13 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

11:23:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

In my busy life, I sometimes forget what matters most. My business. My PhD. TV dramas. Friend's weddings. Fitness. All these things compete with God's place, but this week I got a great wake up call.

Well, how great it is to be reminded that only one name matters.

The Bible's Hope for Singleness, Marriage, and Sexuality- Dennis Brown

21:09:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

My friend shared with me a series of sermons based on relationships: http://www.friendshiptaipei.com/hope-for-relationships. The bible passage is at: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+6%3A13-20&version=NIV.

This is the version he talks about:

1 Corinthians 6:13-20

The Message (MSG)
13 You know the old saying, “First you eat to live, and then you live to eat”? Well, it may be true that the body is only a temporary thing, but that’s no excuse for stuffing your body with food, or indulging it with sex. Since the Master honors you with a body, honor him with your body!
14-15 God honored the Master’s body by raising it from the grave. He’ll treat yours with the same resurrection power. Until that time, remember that your bodies are created with the same dignity as the Master’s body. You wouldn’t take the Master’s body off to a whorehouse, would you? I should hope not.
16-20 There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, “The two become one.” Since we want to become spiritually one with the Master, we must not pursue the kind of sex that avoids commitment and intimacy, leaving us more lonely than ever—the kind of sex that can never “become one.” There is a sense in which sexual sins are different from all others. In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and God-modeled love, for “becoming one” with another. Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.

True or false?
A) Two consenting adults can do whatever they want with their body
B) Sex is dirty

What Dennis Brown suggests is:
1) since sex is made by God and used by God, therefore
2) sexuality is a purpose, which is written in our instructional manual- the bible
3) do not pursue sex that avoids commitment and intimacy

Christmas is coming- Jason Gray

21:54:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

There is a toxic kind of skeptism that grows within adults. But children, those pure of hearts, believe what they are told.

But Christmas brings about a sense of wonder. Even non-believers can't deny the joy of this season.

Christmas Is Coming
Jason Gray
Key: Gb Tempo: 104

Christmas is coming, the bells are ringing
Hope comes alive as music fills the air

Some say Christmas is for children and I believe it’s true
Can you hear the season calling to the child inside of you?
Awaken from your slumber come see with younger eyes
And be taken by the wonder that took the whole world by surprise!

Christmas is coming, the bells are ringing
Hope comes alive as music fills the air
I hear the drumming, it won't be long now
Christmas is coming, will you be there?
Christmas is coming, will you be there?

They're dressing up the city in a brightly lighted gown
There’s singing in the streets whenever Christmas comes to town
So let the spirit find you wherever you have been
And bring you to the child who makes us children again

Christmas is coming, the bells are ringing
Hope comes alive as music fills the air
I hear the drumming, it won't be long now
Christmas is coming, will you be there?
Christmas is coming, will you be there?

Prepare ye the way
For God's own baby boy
Born to mend all broken things
And to heal the world with joy
He will heal the world with joy!

I don't want you to miss it, I know I have before
Like the innkeeper who missed the wonder right outside his door
So open up your heart as Christmas passes through
Just in time to wake the child asleep inside of you

Christmas is coming, the bells are ringing
Hope comes alive as music fills the air
I hear the drumming, it won't be long now
Christmas is coming, will you be there?
Christmas is coming, will you be there?

Grown up Christmas List- Amy Grant

If this Grown up Christmas list came true, then I would need to change careers- and I don't think I'd mind.

No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
That time would heal all hearts
And every one would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end

I wrote ( C ) to you (G) with childhood (Am) fantasies. (A7) (D)

Well, I'm (Em) all grown-up (D) now ( C )
And still (Em) need help (D) somehow. ( C )
I'm not a ( C ) child (G) but my heart still (Am) can dream (A7) (D)

So here's (Em) my lifelong (D) wish ( C )
My grown-up (Em) Christmas (D) list ( C )
Not for myself ( Am ) but for a world (G) in need (D)

(G) No more (A) lives torn ( C) apart
That (Am) wars would never (D) start
That (G) time would heal all ( C) hearts
And (G) every (A) one would have a ( C) friend
And (Am) right would always (D) win
And love (A7) would never ( C) end

(G) This is my (Am) grown-up Christmas (G) list.

As children (Em) we (D) believed ( C)
The grandest (Em) sight (D) to see ( C)
Was something ( C) lovely (G) wrapped (Am) beneath the tree (A7) (D)

Well (Em) heaven (D) surely ( C) knows
That (Em) packages (D) and bows ( C)
Can ( C) never heal (G) A (Am) hurting human (D) soul

(G) No more (A) lives torn ( C) apart
That (Am) wars would never (D) start
That (G) time would heal all ( C) hearts
And (G) every (A) one would have a ( C) friend
And (Am) right would always (D) win
And love (A7) would never ( C) end

(G) This is my (Am) grown-up Christmas (G) list.

(Gm) What is this illusion called (A) the innocence of youth
Maybe (G) only in our blind belief can we (A) ever find the truth

(G) No more (A) lives torn ( C) apart
That (Am) wars would never (D) start
That (G) time would heal all ( C) hearts
And (G) every (A) one would have a ( C) friend
And (Am) right would always (D) win
And love (A7) would never ( C) end

(G) This is my (Am) grown-up Christmas (G) list.
This is my (Am) only life-long wish (G)
This is my (C ) grown-up Christmas (G) list.

For the first time- Jason Bare

Firsts are always memorable. Do you remember your first kiss, your first love, the first steps of your baby, the first day at school, first job?

There have been so many births this year, and the simple joy that parents describe their little bundles of joy.

Can you imagine when Mary and Joseph sees their baby for the first time? Not only are they beholding their baby for the first time. But they are also beholding the saviour for the first time.

Any moment it could happen
He knew it was time by the look in her eyes
There was Joseph Holding Mary In this stable they wait
For this babe to arrive In a world so dark
Heaven and Earth would collide And would change who they are
As she laid him in a manger
Creation was hushed by the sound of His cry
And their eyes were filled with wonder
Could this be the same voice that brought us to life
Unbelievable The promise is this little child What a miracle (Chorus) This was the first time
Mortal eyes would see the Savior The first night
Heaven sings a song with nature
Alleluia Alleluia The world has seen the light For the first time As she rocks Him on her shoulder
Did she know it was only a matter of time
That one day when He is older
He will open His arms and give up His life
But tonight He sleeps As angels sing through the night
Of His majesty
(Chorus)
Glory to God in the highest Peace on earth
Glory to God in the highest Peace on earth
Alleluia
This was the first time This was the first night
(Chorus)

A month till Christmas- Happy birthday Jesus

21:29:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

It's a month till Christmas, and the Christmas carols are already ringing in. I've already had my first Christmas party, my first Christmas card, first Christmas present, and first Christmas cookies.

Here's a little Christmas carol to start off...

Happy Birthday To You
happy Birthday To You
happy Birthday Dear Jesus
happy Birthday To You.

happy Birthday Jesus
i'm So Glad Its Christmas
all The Tinsel And Lights
and The Presents Are Nice
but The Real Gift Is You.

happy Birthday Jesus
i'm So Glad Its Christmas
all The Carols And Bells
make The Holiday Swell
and it's All About You
happy Birthday Jesus
jesus I Love You!

It's Just a Girl, Just a boy.

The story is simple. And it's very unlikely that you haven't heard it. But it's simple. God became a baby, born in a manger. And it was a simple girl who gave birth to the savior of the world. And the message is so simple- repent, believe and be saved.

You maybe just a girl, or just a boy. But if you let God use you, God may just have you change the world.

Just a girl- Brandon Heath

I wonder if you've heard the story
Of little fame and lesser glory
The night the keeper of the innkeeper
The little town of Bethlehem
Encountered Joseph and his Mary
About to birth the Savior of the world

His wife said go and see who's knocking
He ran down to the gate unlocked it
The moment he heard Mary's cry
He couldn't look them in the eye
Denied them and went back to bed
When his wife asked who was there
He said I don't know

Just a girl
Just a couple gypsies begging at the door
Told them we don't have room for anymore
And closed the door
It was just a girl

He tried to sleep and wasn't able
He snuck out to the dirty stable
The two had found for covering
And later in her suffering
The keeper knelt outside the barn
And in the light of that great star
He prayed what have I done

He's just a babe
Just minutes old there trembling in the hay
I could have found a room for them to stay
I'm so ashamed
He's just a babe

There was no robe
There was no crown
The shepherds stood
On royal ground
The keeper wept
For what he'd done
He turned away
God's own Son

Just a King
Just a million angels crowding in to see
Jesus there among humanity

Just a babe
Just minutes old there trembling in the hay
Staring at his mother in the face
She's just a girl

Just a girl
Does she even know that she just changed the world
Does she even know that He will save the world
Does Mary know that He will save the world
She's just a girl
Just a girl
Just a girl

Wiser

21:49:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

A page from my diary:
As I sit on the other side of the therapy chair, I seem wiser for the experiences that have happened. Wiser for the hurt overcome and challenges faced. Wiser for the battles lost and the victories won. Wiser for the words said and those left unsaid. Wiser for holding on to who I am and letting go of who I wanted to be.

Do-over

20:20:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

Everyday, I see people struggle with regrets. A new taiwanese TV series follows the consequences of someone who has the chance to have a "do-over" in this particular "do-over", the person has the choice to (1) die, since loved one had already died in a traffic accident, (2) go back to the moment when they met that loved one, and to decide to not fall in love in the first place.

What would you decide? Is it better to have loved and lost, than to have never to have loved at all? What if, what if, what if?

The question that plagues us, only occurs because we have the benefit of hindsight. Do you think adam and eve would have eaten the fruit had they known it would lead to death? Would pharoah have sent all his men into the red sea knowing that the sea would swallow them up? Would Judas have betrayed Jesus if he had known that Jesus would die from a kiss? Would you have accepted someone's love knowing that you will both hurt in the future?

Given a do-over, what moment in time would you go back to?

Personally, I wouldn't go back in time to change any personal relationships that I have had in the past, because I believe that they have shaped the way I see relationships today. I do sometimes regret getting into arguments in the past. But by making so many mistakes in the past I have come to appreciate the love of Christ and the sinfulness of my past.

Would I change anything? Probably not.

Whether good, whether bad, whether important or not, all experiences are permitted by God. We may not understand - but he has his reasons.

Help me find my way.

It's this time of year when high school students are ensuring that their University preferences are in, and university students are contemplating their life after graduation. Spring is also a time for huge changes in the property market with people contemplating new homes before Christmas.

For me, it's also a time of change. Starting a new job, wrapping up my PhD. I seem, once again, lost. I don't know what I am doing and what direction I am going in.

Worship should be EPIC- Build your kingdom here

I just love this type of worship, the music just vibrates through your body, and you can't help but to get up and get into some heel thumping action.

Church is for everyone.

This is the first song I have heard from Rend Collective. I hope it revives the way you worship too!

obsessions?

23:03:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

I was struck by the lesson God taught me this morning. I had been obsessing about something for the last couple of days. Not even a little, not a lot, but way too much.

And this morning, God, in his word, gave me the lesson I needed to hear.

Indeed, if God wills it, then let it be so. But let us not go on obsessing about plans we have in our own heads, to satisfy wants our minds believe we need.

alone on mid autumn festival

20:21:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

This time last year I was in Canada/USA. We celebrated Mid Autumn Festival with my family who flew to the states to visit me. The 'togetherness' of mid autumn festival is something I love. This year, I sit in an empty house alone while my brother is interstate working, my mother is out with her fellowship.
For those of you alone on mid autumn festival this year, chin up- you are loved.

267 things in a soul mate

20:01:00 Kikoprincess 0 Comments

I recently reviewed the 20th anniversary edition of "Chicken Soup for the Soul".
original book review: couragepsyc.blogspot.com.au

In the book, the author wrote about his personal experience with soulmate searching. He wrote down a list of 267 attributes that he desired in his future partner. And these attributes were quite honest- included attributes about the significant other's looks. And he thanks God that he does indeed find a partner, and looking back at his list, he found that God had prepared for him a partner with almost all of those attributes!

So here are some of mine...
  • A follower of Christ
  • Love of children's ministry
  • Respectful to old and young
  • Able to independently look after themselves
  • Humble and willing to admit wrongs
  • A gentle heart
  • Wise
  • Has a charming smile
  • Strong
  • Courageous
  • Honest
  • Has a passion for life
  • Easy to talk to
  • Is forgiving
  • Adventureous
  • Isn't perfect
  • Doesn't smoke
  • Doesn't like to get drunk
  • Doesn't gamble
  • ...

I don't know if my soul mate is somewhere out there. And I wonder how many attributes I would hit in someone else's list?

My friend's favorite hymn is Come Thou Fount, and every time I heard this hymn, I think of them.
I love how music can trigger memories, experiences, sensations.

But it is the same old song you say, well, I agree with the artists, it just doesn't grow old, because the message is still as relevant today as it was yesterday.

Happy Birthday YY. You can join us in worshiping together, by downloading the hymn from Noisetrade.com. @resonate_church You can grab all the chords here.
