What if your blessings came through raindrops?

Woke up early this morning for the usual prayer walk and sharing time with my mother. This morning, there was a light drizzle and we walked side by side under our own umbrellas. The world around us seems different on these cloudy days. We tread more carefully, we watch where we are walking more and look at our surroundings less.

My bible readings have bought me into the old testament a lot lately. The old testament has many tails of reigns of Israel. It talks about a nation chosen by God to be their own people. These people take God for granted and go their own ways, worship man made idols and commit all types of hurts against God. The only time they turn to God is when they are completely without hope, like when enemies have got them cornered or they are subjected to slavery or they are in exile.

They turn to God. They cry to him for help and pledge their hearts to him. (I will leave the story here, when things get better for this mob, they revert back to their old ways). But, this brings me to a crucial point. We often turn to God during the lowest points in our lives. When we realise we can't do it on our own. We turn to God when we are desperate. We may have wasted many tears. We may have had many sleepless nights.

These trials though, maybe a blessing. As the song below describes.

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
And we cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
All the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
And what if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know that pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home
It's not our home

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy
And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are Your mercies in disguise

But at the end of the day, we all have choices. We can choose to curse God and be hateful and resentful towards other people because of negative circumstances. Or we can praise him for the opportunity to lean on him, for the opportunity to grow in him and for the opportunity to learn persistence and perseverance.

James 1

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

So until next time, even if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can move mountains :)
